I used to think I would never find a passion. I spent much of my teenage and especially early adult years lost. I began to think I’d never have that feeling others seemed to have, where they just had to keep doing something and it was all they could think about. I would argue I do have a love (maybe even a small passion) in writing and in language. But I didn’t have that capital P passion that, quite frankly, borders on obsession. I felt that something was missing in my life, I felt aimless.
A few years ago, I started watching skating videos and the idea of skating interested me (check out My Skating Origin Story for all the details), which led to me asking for skates for Christmas. When I put on the bright blue skates from Amazon for the first time, that aimlessness dissipated. That vague interest of mine turned into a passion, an obsession.
I now skate competitively, and skate 10+ hours almost every week. I always want to learn the next thing, perfect what I’m working on, take in more knowledge from my coaches and fellow skaters. The insatiable appetite of my skating bug hasn’t taken a break in over two years. It doesn’t seem to be slowing down either. In fact, that’s why I’m creating this blog. I need to share my skating journey because we’ve still got a long way to go. I want to share my passion with others, offer tips and advice, and foster a community that loves skating.
I hope you’ll join me on my journey as I continue to pursue my passion!
